Cameron Hansen, U.S. Air Force veteran, successfully rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean
- Cameron Hansen
"I am a United States Air Force veteran, serving as Senior Airman from 1993 to 1994. After completing my military service, I worked a construction job. Unfortunately, about 12 years ago, I suffered a severe accident that resulted in numerous injuries that would require surgical intervention. Prior to the injury, I was extremely active, both in my work and as an athlete. I was an avid runner, golfer, and softball player, so this injury had devastating consequences for me. I underwent knee, shoulder, and hip surgeries to repair the damage caused by the accident. My left hip surgery was performed by Dr. Domb. After several years of rehab, I was able to gradually return to the activities I enjoyed before my injury.
Today, my hip still feels amazing! I have been able to return to playing softball, golfing, and even running without any pain. Most exciting of all, last year, I participated in the ultimate challenge as a member of the “Foar from Home” team. Along with three other United States veterans, I completed a 3,000-mile rowing event across the Atlantic Ocean, from the Canary Islands to Antigua. Despite the immense physical demands of this task–including remaining in a seated position and rowing for miles on end–my hip did not cause me any problems.
Aside from my physical recovery, Dr. Domb and the team also gave me the confidence to return to college and earn my degree, which I am very grateful for."
